Prescriptions To You Case Study

sdesign1 was pleased to be chosen by Prescriptions to You to develop both their website and an online application which allows customers to register for prescription renewals.

The web application enables customers to enter their medication and renewal dates, to receive email reminders when their prescription is due for renewal and finally to book an available time slot in which their medication will be delivered to an address of their choice.

The Prescriptions to You team are able to monitor orders, deliveries, renewals, overdue prescriptions and manage customers via an admin panel within the application.

The CMS used was Drupal as this allowed us to develop the bespoke prescriptions application within the CMS.

Background

The client, an independent pharmacist, wanted their customers to be able to renew their prescriptions quickly and easily online.  Once renewed the prescribed medication would be delivered to the customer's door.  Therefore the development of a website containing an online application, that would enable this functionality, was needed. Key to the development and design of this project was ensuring all aspects of good customer service were catered for - including, customer focused design, ease of use and accessibility for all potential users.

Brief

The pharmacist required a bespoke web application that had the following key functionality:

• Online ordering of prescriptions
• Input of medication details, renewal period, etc
• User account creation/login area 
• Prescription renewal reminder emails to go to customers
• A renewal button for customers to click on and start the renewal process
• A way for customers to choose a delivery slot suitable for them
• A way for customers to enter a delivery address of choice
• An admin management section allowing:
  • editing of customer details
  • monitoring of customer orders, deliveries, renewals and overdue prescriptions.
  • access to booked delivery slot information
  • access to upcoming renewal information

The Result

In addition to satisfying all the requirements outlined in the brief the new application is now Level AA compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0) and has a clear and consistent navigation and page structure.

The application is easy to use and manage, with intuitive controls that can be used correctly at first glance. The website and application were built to accessibility guidelines and are therefore accessible to all users regardless of ability.  This was a crucial fulfilment of needs for disabled and house-bound users, who are likely to gain some of the most benefit from this prescription renewal and delivery service.
