If you are hosting a website using a Windows server, you may want to password protect the site. To do this you need access to your server and the IIS manager.

  • Click "Start"
  • Click "Run"
  • Type in "inetmgr" and click "Ok"

The IIS console will now load, click the "+" symbol next to your server name until the tree expands and shows a list of your websites.

  • Right click the website you wish to protect
  • Click "Properties"
  • Click "Directory Security"
  • Click "Edit"
  • Disable by "Enable anonymous access"

When you try to access your website now, it will prompt you for a username and password. You should use your windows login for this.
